Introductions

Hi there!

As you might have read on my new homepage and my first post last week, my name is Sanne, and I have just started this blog. Last week introduced this website and what I intend to do with it, so now this post is meant to introduce me as a person.

On the homepage I wrote a little already: I am a young transgender woman, I play D&D, and I am overly poetic and dramatic. Let’s go over them in order.

LGBTQ+

So yeah, I am a transgirl. I am recently out to myself, and still am questioning a lot about my gender. I started questioning about a year ago, after I put a selfie of me through one of those apps that let you swap the gender on photos. From there I thought a lot about myself, and then finally opened up about how I felt and the doubts that I had to my friends. Luckily I have very supportive friends, multiple of whom are also on the lgbtq-spectrum, so they give me a lot of room to experiment in a safe environment. I haven’t started transitioning yet, and I’m not even sure what my transition journey would look like. I am on a waiting list for a gender psychologist, but those waiting lists are incredibly long where I live, so I probably won’t get far until a year or even two from now. Still, I try my best to just be me, even if it is only in my head and online.

Dungeons and Dragons

I love D&D. This is probably the next biggest thing about me, and the first that I tell people. I spend a lot of my online time watching D&D vids on youtube. I watch several creators, including JoCat, Davvy Chappy, and Ginny Di. And I watch Critical Role. I am so in love with that cast of nerdy-ass voice actors. I started watching the re-uploads of their streams in 2017, when they still were playing their first campaign (Vox Machina, yay!). I was caught up by the end of the year, and watched their second campaign as soon as it came out. Their message of creating a world for everyone, combined with the amazing improv acting of the cast and the stellar DM’ing of Matt Mercer, made me realize much about myself. I started playing myself after seeing them, and now I play once every week with a steady group of friends, with two campaigns alternating every other week.

I am the DM for one of those campaigns, and I am loving it so far. We are playing a homebrew game set in my own fantasy world, about which I could probably dedicate an entire other post. If you are interested, take a look at the wiki I made detailing some of it: the Aenín Wiki. My players are pirates on their own ship, currently on a quest to find a Genie, the water genasi players’ father. The other campaign we are playing is DM’ed by my friend who is a MTG-fan. He is running a game in Magic’s setting of Ravnica, and I am playing a fiend warlock of Rakdos. I am loving her chaotic (and sometimes maniacal) energy. (Also, for me D&D is a great way to experiment with my gender.) So yes, I love roleplaying games. Not only D&D, but other ttrpg’s as well, like Vampire: the Masquerade. But that’s a story for another time.

My Aesthetic

I think at this point you’ve figured out a bit about me. It is probably easy to imagine some soft, very feminine parts of me. I love to paint my nails (a thing I don’t get to do often), and I have a friend who loves to do nail art. I am currently growing my hair out to be more feminine. I do love those pink and blue pastels, and the cottagecore vibe is agreeable indeed. Also cozy sweaters and colorful socks. Then you could probably also see the little nerd in me, wearing D&D and other fandom shirts. But there are some other sides to me, too. There is definitely more than a little goth in me, though I think it’d go too far to describe myself completely as such. I love to wear some darker colors, and I do love some alt fashion. I have one black beanie, with some metal parts and corset-like lacing, that I wear constantly. It also expresses itself in some of my other tastes. I love listening to metal. Mostly powermetal, I guess, with bands like Gloryhammer, Powerwolf and Beast in Black. Though, I listen to songs more than bands. I am also gothic with some of my literary preferences. Dracula is one of my all-time favorites, and my shelf is filled with the classics of victorian horror. I love all things vampire anyhow, which is also a big part of me. There we have it, I think. My fandoms will tell some more about me, but those deserve their own section. A little metal goth, and a little bean that wants to be loved.

My Fandoms

Oh boi, where to start. Let’s get the obvious out of the way: I love all different sorts of fantasy. I mentioned Critical Role and D&D already, but of course I am also a fan of Tolkien and Middle Earth. I think I like The Hobbit more than the Lord of The Rings. Probably my biggest fandom is Harry Potter. Not J.K. Rowling, let’s get that out the way, but the Wizarding World is awesome. From Quidditch to Marauders, you can talk to me about Hogwarts houses anyday (I’m a Ravenclaw btw). Avatar: The Last Airbender is also one of the big ones. It is such a perfect series, with amazing characters and stellar worldbuilding. Gravity Falls and She-Ra are other cartoons that come to mind. Then there are a number of other fandoms I am part of. I can talk about Pirates of the Caribbean a great deal. Bookwise Eragon was once a big one, now less so. Good Omens is awesome. Narnia is also good.

I have recently found, and fallen in love with, a very small book series called Nemesis. Dreadnought and its sequel Sovereign are written by trans writer April Daniels, and are about a young trans girl named Danny, who unexpectedly inherits the powers of the world’s greatest superhero. They are an amazing read for any trans or lgbtq+ person. I believe a third book is currently being written, and I think the series deserves more recognition. The superhero genre in general is something I quite like. My favorite movies include The Incredibles, Megamind, and Big Hero 6. I’m not that into most mainstream superhero stuff like marvel (though Guardians of the Galaxy is cool), but I do like Batman, with Gotham and his rogues gallery (must be that little darker, goth streak), especially Harley Quinn and her whole thing.

There’s some other stuff, like musicals (especially Team Starkid ones), but I think those will have to wait.

Bleugh… I could talk about all of these things a great deal more, and I’m sure there’s more stuff I forgot, but I think I talked about myself long enough. I hope this has given you a little better understanding of me as a person, and I hope you can connect with some of it yourself.

Love, and till next time,

~ Sanne
