Just as Aenín is all of the land, the Aegaic Ocean is all of the sea. A vast expanse of water, stretching all the way from the Coast of Wonders, the southeastern border of Aenín, all the way to the distant horizon. Seven islands can be found scattered across its surface, as a last beacon of civilization before the endless Everblue.
Locations
The Coast of Wonders
It starts at the cliffs of the Golden Mountains in Chara that drop into the seas below, and goes along the steppes and rocky ground of Illion. The estuary of the Anadurna then takes a significant gap out of the shoreline, only for it to continue past the last remains of Drassfell that are Odyssa’s jungles. The end is marked by Tristan's Hills in Merryville, where the Last Lighthouse marks East’s End. Thus stretches the Coast of Wonders.
The Seven Isles of Thrai
Dotted throughout the Ocean are a series of jungle-covered isles. Seven of them, they form the county of Thrai. The first you will come across, and the biggest, is Inachos, home to both the county’s capital, Mykenai, as well as the King’s Navy.
Further south lie three islands: Alpheios, Eridanos and Xanthos. Together they form The Triangle. Though similar in geography, they are somewhat smaller than Inachos. There are some cities on these islands, the most notable being Laconia on Eridanos.
Easternmost of the Seven, the island Evrotas is an active volcano. A small city exist there.
The southernmost island, Gygas, is the smallest of the Seven, and the only one not to be colonized by the modern world. There are inhabitants, but they are as primitive in their thinking as they are with their crafting.
Last of the islands, and furthest away from the mainland, is Scamandros.
Travel
Obviously, normal modes of transportation are not going to do. What you need to travel here is a ship. Large double or triple masted warships are owned by the King’s navy, armed with large crews and multiple cannons. Smaller frigates, less armed but with more carrying capacity, are owned by merchants who use the sea as a means to transport their goods.
Many seaside towns support a harbor, though only the larger cities can house the massive navy vessels. In those cities one can most often also find a shipwright, as well as docks used to repair or even newly construct ships. Of these, the shipyard of Mykenai is the most renowned, having produced many a nautical wonder, such as the Trident and the King’s Courage.
Piracy
Despite the best efforts of the King’s Navy, the lawless fields of the Everblue are a sprawling hub of scum and villainy. Whether they joined in search of adventure or were lured by gold, pirates are everywhere. Large pirate vessels, armed to the teeth with cannon and crew, assault many merchant sailors who try to make an honest living on the Aegaic Ocean. The sight of the black flag is enough to make most sailors’ knees shake.
Most pirates are organized in crews, with one captain above the rest. Some pirate captains are democratically elected, others have already built a reputation and rule unchallenged. Most every pirate looks out for themselves first. However, good captains retain the loyalty of their crew members, by supplying enough action and booty for all. Fighting each other as much as they fight their victims, rivaling pirate crews are more than common. Rights for certain plundering areas, rights for claimed treasure, and bragging rights; when another pirate wants it, he generally just takes it.
The Isle of Scamandros is the meeting place for pirates. Its Black Beach is named after the many flags of the same color that fly on poles high and low everywhere along its length. When merchant vessels set eyes upon that dreaded place, they know they are in bad waters, for they are pirate waters. The town of Flintlocke is a pirate city, located on the Isle. Home to the lonely and depressed, this town is paradise for any lover of alcohol, women and random bar fights.
