Aenín Timeline

The History of the Kingdom Aenín is vast and complicated.

This page is a major W.I.P. Not everything you read here is final.

Langfeldian Calendar

Multiple races use multiple systems to count years, months and days, but the calendar that is used by the humans of the West is the most commonly accepted as standard.

This calendar was named after the House of Langfeld, the royal house of Aenín Kingdom, and sets the starting point of History at the date when the Kingdom of Aenín officially formed. Therefore everything before that date is labeled BA, or “Before Anselm”. The current year is 863 AA (or “After Anselm”).

Scattered Kingdoms

2187 BA

Human explorers discover the fertile soil of the regions known as Westland and build small villages in the area.

1500-400 BA

Villages grow into cities, lordships are established, trade agreements are negotiated, wars are waged, and kingdoms rise and fall. The land is steady, and except for the occasional orc raids, the people are content.

684 BA

The Plague ravages through the countryside, collapsing the cities and lordships between the forest and the lakes.

394 BA

A warlord of the city named Cireze starts his campaign to rule all of Westland.

372 BA

Salazar of Cireze succeeds in conquering the entire land between the forest and the lakes. Unfortunately, he dies the same year of the measles. His son is unable to keep the realm together, and it scatters into multiple city-states.

Humble Beginnings

21 BA

A man by the name of Anselm becomes lord of the small city-state called Prinston.

0 AA

King Anselm unites several human city-states in the region under his leadership. The Kingdom of Aenín is born.

From his home castle in Prinston, King Anselm continues to expand his realm. He bears five sons, all of whom serve in his army as mighty generals and master strategists.

13 AA

King Anselm dies at 78 years old, having completed his dream of uniting the entire regions of Westland.

79 AA

132 AA

202 AA

Several fishermen settle on the shores of Lake Aegos, forming a small fishing village.

Expansion

425 AA

The three sons of Angrenost continue to expand their father’s territories. Thedric, the eldest, becomes King and under his rule Aenín’s largest recorded army is amassed.

430-433 AA

The Belóna Campaign.

467 AA

In their expansion, the men of Aenín forget the other races that live in this world. Between, in and under the mountains north of the Kingdom live an ancient race. Long and deep go the memories of the dwarves and, when humans attempt to claim lands that have been ruled over by dwarves for centuries, retaliation is severe. King Daín, son of Oín, son of Borin, fifty-second Lord of the Hold, is an especially conservative (some might say stubborn) dwarf. He wages outright war on the men when they enter the highlands of Ûrad-Dum.

474 AA

The Battle of Asmodor Fields takes place, one of the largest battles in the War of Dwarves and Men.

482 AA

Thedric the Conqueror dies at 102 years old. By this time, he has conquered all of the regions of Narnmor, the southern provinces of Belóna and Abydos and has established outposts as far as the Stormhills.

507 AA

King Darûk, son of Daín, son of Oín, ascends the Granite Throne as fifty-third Lord of the Hold. He rescinds his father’s decisions and allows Aenín’s negotiators back into the mountains. However, he does not yet strike an alliance with the human kingdom.

The Great Unity

Not only the Kingdom of Aenín is expanding its borders. Far to the south lies the Desert Empire of Chara-el, where the Sultan of the Dune Seas rules. When the two countries learn of each other, a treaty is soon installed. However, the Sultan is hungry for power and what was supposed to be a swift strike to expand the Sultan’s territories turns into a violent conflict that sees the armies of Aenín march upon the desert empire. Four years of bloodshed ensue.

544 AA

On the first day of the new year, Sultan al-Ankodim marches his army across the Anadurna at Berona, defying the treaty’s terms and initiating the War of the Scorching Sun, later renamed the Unity War.

— AA

The sultan’s army meets its first resistance at the Battle of Meloran. Although they are able to take the city, troops coming in from the east cut off their ranks and the sultan has to retreat.

548 AA

After general Tulqas admits defeat at the Battle of Farquar, a truce is instated, and negotiations for a new peace treaty start.

549 AA

The Great Unity is signed, and all of the land is united under the banner of the King of Aenín.

551 AA

The capital of Aenín Kingdom is moved to the lakeside trade city that is now re-named Si-Tahna. Construction of a new Royal Palace starts atop a hill not far from the city.

Present Age

710 AA

King Durûk, son of Darûk, son of Daín, ascends the Granite Throne as fifty-fourth Lord of the Hold.

841 AA

Thanebrand II becomes King in Si-Tahna.
