Where creativity meets comfort

Flintlocke

Flintlocke is a pirate city, located on the Isle of Scamandros in the Aegaic Ocean. Home to the lonely and depressed, this town is paradise for any lover of alcohol, women and random bar fights.

Geography

Flintlocke is situated on the infamous Black Beach of Scamandros. The jungle is encroaching a mile to the east, and the mountains are a ways away to the south. The buildings in town are shabby, to say the least. The houses nearest the harbor, and most of the town proper are quite small. Further away from the beach, as the land rises steadily, the buildings get larger and more comfortable. Here the more fortunate pirates have homes.

It is located a little over a day’s full sail from The Triangle and the Isle of Xanthos, about two day’s full sail from Mykenai, the capital of Thrai.

History

Early in history, settlers built a small city on an island far away, seceding from existing government to form a neutral trading post, with equal rights to everyone. The settlers goal ultimately failed however, as this neutrality inevitably attracted many a number of outlaws, criminals, and other shady figures, hoping to find refuge from the law in other lands. Soon the city became a criminal haven, a pirate harbor where no honest man would want to be found dead. Its original name has long since been forgotten, but nowadays it is known as Flintlocke.

Facilities

Flintlocke, being the hive of scum and villainy it is, houses some of the most infamous establishments, such as the Broken Bottle Inn, where every glass of rum comes without charge as long as you bring your cutlass. The city’s streets are littered with those whoring, snoring and deploring.

Broken Bottle Inn

The Broken Bottle is one of the largest buildings in town, but also one of the most damaged. It is about three stories tall, but many of its support beams are cracked and most of its windows smashed. There is usually at least one barfight going on. Despite all of this, a small three-piece band continues to perform by the nearly-collapsed stairs. The barman, Fezzik, conspicuously lifts his eyepatch to inconspicuously wink, while endlessly continuing to polish a single glass. It hasn’t got any cleaner.

The Monkey’s Paw

The Monkey’s Paw is the only place where magic is even slightly found on the island. The shop itself is about as shabby as the rest of the buildings in town, but its inside is far more interesting. It is a strange little curiosity shop, run by a strange little owner. They are small, about halfling size, and incredibly hunched over. They have large round ears, and tough black hair that also grows on their large, wrinkly hands. They usually wear a red and purple silk robe, and a small pair of spectacles. They sit on a chair that can roll around the shop so they don’t have to get up. No one knows their name.

The Powder Keg

The Powder Keg is a small store, more a hovel than a building, with a roof that is a disparate collection of patchwork. Inside it is dark, as the only illumination comes from two small wall-sconces that provide dull red magical light. Any windows have long since blown out and have been covered with planks. The place is packed with black powder. The owner, a gnome woman with frazzled white hair and a pair of large goggles, was kicked out of the Navy for her obsession and disastrous tinkering with gunpowder. She now collects and produces the stuff, and is the main supplier of most pirate ventures

Harbor

For seafaring purposes, obviously, it also has a harbor. Flintlocke’s harbor is quite large, able to have a good number of pirate ships stationed there. Anyone can moor at its docks, but ye be warned, more often than not, you leave with far less than you came with.

Officially, the harbor is run by a Shipmaster Alwyn, and if you need to talk about ships he is the man. But most people in the town know him as Alwyn the Drunk, and he can often be found running through town naked, yammering incoherently, or just passed out in an alley.
