Gygas is one of the Seven Isles in the Aegaic Ocean, being the southernmost one. It is also the smallest of the Seven, and the only one not to be colonized by the modern world. The natives are as primitive in their thinking as they are with their crafting. They live in thatch huts, deep within the jungle, undisturbed by the goings-on of the outside world, hunting the jungle creatures and gathering the jungle plants. They serve a deity, which they call K’ama-Iku. He is a god of rainfall, a god of fertile land, and a god of warm winds. But he is also a god of tempests, a god of monsoons, and a god of ocean storms. He is an unforgiving god, taking lives as easily as he gives them. The islanders hope to please him by praying, and burning a part of their catch as an offering. Infidelity is punished severely, as one person’s mistake can rain wrath down upon the entire village.
