Up in the North of Aenín the county Ûrad-Dum sits on the highlands of the same name. Here the Dwarf Lords of old still hold power. From the mountain city of Barûk Hold, capital of these highlands, King Durûk, son of Darûk, son of Daín, fifty-fourth Lord of the Hold rules over the dwarves of the surrounding lands.
Geography
Mountains surround the highlands of Ûrad-Dum, and the terrain is characterized by cliffs and plateaus. Many cities lie hidden within and in between the mountains. Biggest of these is Barûk Hold, great capital of the dwarf lands.
The River that Connects the World also springs from the highlands. It is then fed by snowmelts till it roars over the edge of Ûrad Plateau in a giant waterfall and continues south.
Government
Long and deep go the memories of the dwarves, and they themselves are not easily changed in their traditions. During the age of the Great Unification it took many deliberations and even more gifts from the human negotiators to let the dwarves finally accept their terms. Even then, they insisted on keeping the rule over the lands in the hands of their King, come to power by dwarven tradition and the will of the gods, and not some count appointed by the human sovereign. Thus, King Durûk, son of Darûk, son of Daín, fifty-fourth Lord of the Hold still remains seated on the Granite Throne after three hundred years.
Each dwarf city, as well as the surrounding lands, is governed by a different clan, and the clan leader holds the ultimate say in each dispute presenting itself in their court. Only the Dwarf King rules all other dwarves, as it has been since the dawn of time.
